Elderberry, Echinacea root and Star Anise anti-viral syrup.

This quick 'how to' video shows a recipe for a simple syrup that can be taken as a preventative or when the cold or 'flu strikes. The combination of anti-viral and immune boosting herbs are ideal for the winter months and it tastes really good too. Store it in the fridge or in a cool dark cupboard for up to 6 months (dont forget to put the date on the label).

Adult dose is 1 teaspoon (5ml) 3-5 times daily. Half this dose (2.5ml) for children 7-12, quarter it (1.25ml) for younger children and take it yourself to give the benefits to breast fed babies and toddlers.

 Identifying and harvesting Hawthorn berries.

This video helps you to identify the Hawthorn tree and takes you through the simple process of harvesting, drying and storage.

The hawthorn berries are traditionally used for problems with the heart and circulatory system, angina, heart weakness and even high blood pressure can be improved by taking hawthorn berries.

Use the dried berries to make a decoction. Add a heaped teaspoon of berries per cup and simmer gently for 15 minutes in just over a cupful of water. Take 3 cups daily. You can make a days batch in one go by using 3 teaspoons of berries and about 4 cups of water.
